If you’re a blogger, you know the amount of effort it takes and the pains associated with trying to keep your traffic from declining, taking quality photos and constantly staying on top of all the SEO changes Google is making to their algorithms. It’s a lot to keep up with! It feels like a full time job sometimes! Is there something out there to help bloggers stay on top of all the expectations and ahead of the curve? I’m glad you asked! Because there is a simple way and that simple way is called Food Blogger Pro.
The post below includes affiliate links. When I find a great product or service, I like to share it with my readers. Sometimes I use affiliate links so I can earn commission for my recommendations. Thank you for supporting Recipes Worth Repeating!
I typically just focus on writing recipes and while this isn’t a new recipe, it is food related and I think you’ll appreciate hearing my story and what I’ve been through this past year. Well, ok really…the past 3 years. Some of you remember when I first started my food blog back in 2012. As a matter of fact, some of you guys are the ones who encouraged me to do this website! I’ve always loved to cook and everyone has always RAVED over my recipes and my cooking. Friends and family were constantly reaching out to me asking me to email them this recipe and that recipe and it became quite demanding! A couple of my friends said, “Hey – why don’t you just start a food blog?” So I did.
But it wasn’t the food blog you are looking at now. Oh no…I started safe and easy with a blogspot account. Ok let’s be honest, I went that route because that’s all I knew. I had no idea how to start my own website with my own domain so I did what I knew how to do. So I ventured off and I setup my blogspot account. I made my fabulous recipes, I took really bad quality photos (I thought they were GREAT at the time) and pushed them to the world. I quickly had 25 to 30 close friends and family following me and life was good! Through blogspot’s reporting tools, I could see that people were actually going to my website and looking at my recipes! About 20 pageviews a day! I was on cloud 9! Little did I know there was a big food blogger world out there….
Two years passed at that same pace doing the exact same thing over and over again. One day while on pinterest, I ran across another food blogger’s website and was completely blown away at their quality and what they were doing. Their website was beautiful and their pictures were crisp and clean. It hit me at that moment that I had no idea what I was doing. And they were posting their income reports….what!?!? They’re making money? So, I started reading their income reports and was flabbergasted that one could make money off a food blog (WHAT?!?!) and these food bloggers were actually posting their website traffic numbers! And it was WAY more than my 20 pageviews a day! They were hitting thousands of pageviews a day!
I immediately got discouraged and thought about just shutting my blogspot down. I could never compete with anything like that. I’m a wife, a mom and I work full time. I’m already busy! Feeling discouraged, the very next day (no joke), my friend Peter who is a SEO expert and owns his own hosting company reached out to me to say hi. It was completely out of the blue that he reached out to me…it had been years since I talked to Peter. And then a light bulb immediately went off in my head…oh my goodness he can help me! He does this for a living…why didn’t I reach out to him before now!
And that’s how Recipes Worth Repeating got started. Well, it didn’t look like it does now but hang on…I’ll get to that in a minute. Ok, so back to Peter…in less than 24 hours, he had my site up and configured and on his servers. We converted over my recipes and hideous pictures from blogspot and I was ready to go! Ok! I was excited!!! But now what…..
For the first couple of months, Peter was great in giving me the basics to get started, but I was still trying to figure out how was I going to get to where these other food bloggers were. I had so many questions and I was at a loss and on the verge of tears a lot! I didn’t know what I was doing!! I already wanted to quit and I just “for real” got started!!! Peter told me, “Look – there is this website out there called Pinch of Yum. Look at their income report and do whatever they are doing.” And that, my friends, was the key that unlocked the door to really growing for the first time in 2 years.
When I started studying Pinch of Yum, they kept linking and talking about this thing called Food Blogger Pro. So, what is Food Blogger Pro? Good question! Simply stated, Food Blogger Pro is an awesome website that teaches bloggers how to start, grow and monetize their blog. They have over 300 video tutorials, as well as a thriving community forum of bloggers from around the world. Need an Example?
Here, let me show you an example of how I improved on my food photo quality after just one week of being a part of Food Blogger Pro. Remember those photos I took from 2012 that I thought were great but really weren’t? Well here is one of those pictures. This is a picture of a bowl of soup I took when I first started blogging. Yeah, not so appetizing is it?
This is a picture I took of a bowl of soup after learning how to take food photos correctly by using correct lighting and learning editing basics from Food Blogger Pro:
Please tell me you see the difference in quality. That was my very first photo try after learning some very simple basics. And my photo quality has only improved as I’ve learned more from Food Blogger Pro!
Monetizing on Your Food Blog and Increasing Your Traffic
Remember how I mentioned food bloggers were posting their income reports on their food blogs and I was blown away? Let’s talk about that for a minute. Food Blogger Pro teaches you different methods and strategies on how to grow traffic and how to actually make money on your food blog. I took my food blog from 20 pageviews a day to over a thousand pageviews a day…sometimes a couple of thousand pageviews a day. And form there, I started landing sponsors. And then I started landing press features on other websites and in magazines. And THEN I started getting checks in the mail for my food blogging posts! And I’m not alone. Check out the following food bloggers publicly posted income reports:
- Jessica Gavin – Traffic and Income Report August 2016
- Pinch of Yum – Traffic and Income Report September 2016
- B.Britnell – Traffic and Income Report September 2016
And they have one thing in common…they are all a part of Food Blogger Pro. This is not a multi-level marketing gig. This is 100% working hard and monetizing solely off your own work.
